Winford E. Barber Sr.

Winford E. Barber, Sr., 83, 1084 Woodside Dr., Mansfield, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born January 30, 1923 in Shelby, the son of the late Ray E. and Bertis (Staton) Barber. On December 5, 1943 he married the former Dorothy M. Stewart, and she survives him.

Winford owned and operated Mid Ohio Roofing in Mansfield, for 35 years retiring in 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He loved woodcrafts. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by two sons and four daughters: Winford Will and Mary Barber, Jr, Shiloh, Joann and John Clark, Sr., Mansfield, Linda Lewis, Mansfield, Pamela and Daniel Barcroft, Mansfield, Cathy and Gary Perry, Sr. Mansfield, MSgt. Glen and Jackie, Barber, Sr., Camp Lejeune, NC; Grandchildren: Tammy Sloat, Laura McQuillen, Amanda Mahoney, Metia Barber, Jarrod Barber, John Clark, Jr. , Mark Clark, Joey Lewis, Jr., Mathew Lewis, Keith Barcroft, Cody Barcroft, Gary Perry, Jr., Tonya Helbert, Glen Barber, Jr., Nicole England, Christopher Barber, Joshua Barber; 18 great grandchildren; his sisters: Marie Robinson, Delton, MI., Mildred Dozeman, Baldwin, MI and his brother: Eugene and Barbara Barber, Morehead, KY . He was preceded in death by his brother Elwood Barber.

Friends may call Saturday, July 01, 2006, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006 with Pastor Ron Puff officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park, Lexington, with military honors.
