William “Whitey” Crenshaw
William “Whitey” Crenshaw, age 73, of 46 East Smiley Avenue, Shelby, died Monday April 29, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio after an extended illness.
He was born, December 16, 1928 in Lisbon, Florida the son of the late Johnson and Maude May (Bowling) Crenshaw. Mr. Crenshaw was a former employee of General Motors in Ontario and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1946-1949. He was a member of the Shelby VFW George Broderick Post # 271 and Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Shira) Crenshaw, whom he married on March 3, 1950; 2 sons and daughters-in-law: William and Dianna Crenshaw of Mt. Gilead, OH and David and Carol Crenshaw of Shelby; 2 daughters: Ann Porter and Joni Crenshaw both of Shelby; 4 granddaughers; 5 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ruth Caruthers and May Sweat both of Florida.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and a son-in-law, Richard Porter.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 7-9 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Private funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday with Rev, Dave Carter, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the family.
