William Robert “Bill” Crall

William Robert Bill Crall, age 89, of Greenwich, and formerly of Shelby, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his home after a long illness.

He was born August 16, 1919 in Shelby, the son of the late Roscoe and Rouie (Stauffer) Crall. On February 9, 1941 he married Mabel M. (Barnd) and she survives along with their children: Robert J. and Jinny Crall of Buford, Georgia, Ronald W. and Kolleen Crall of Greenwich, and Nancy and Douglas Sweeten of Burlington, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; Nieces and nephews; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Merle and Virginia Barnd of Shelby. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Donald Crall and by his brothers, George W. Crall and James W. Crall.

Bill was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines. He was a lifelong farmer in the Greenwich area and was a member of the Ashland County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed woodworking and golfing. Bill and his wife Mabel donated a parcel of virgin timber woods to the Ashland County Park District and on October 16, 2004, The Pine Hill Park – Crall Woods was opened www.ashlandcountyparksdistrict.com

Friends may call on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 2-4 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 11 AM with Marty Daly, pastor of Ruggles Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of Ashland, to Ruggles Church or to the Ashland County Park District.     To the family of Mr Crall,plesase accept my sincerest sympathy on his passing. I was the Hospice volunter that would have been of some service to you, but it was not to be. I’m. sure it would have been an interesting assignment
