William Richard “Rick” Gwin, III
William Richard “Rick” Gwin III, age 33, of 623 Burns Street, Mansfield, died Friday, September 5, 1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana from injuries sustained in a sprint car accident at Bear Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Gwin was born July 13, 1964 in Birmingham, Alabama and was a 1982 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and a 1984 graduate of Lima Technical College. He was a former carpenter with Rudolphe-Libbe Co. in Toledo. Known as “Maverick” by his racing friends, he was an avid race car driver, racing enduros, pure stock, late model and sprint cars under number 69.
He is survived by wife, Heather Trine Gwin, whom he married June 30, 1984; 2 sons, William Richard Gwin IV and Cory Nelson Gwin both at home; Mother, Nancy Welling Edmundson of Mansfield; brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Julie Gwin of Mansfield;2 sisters Suzanne Campbell and Becky Scott both of Mansfield;Mother-in-law, Ruby Trine of Shelby; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lewis and Kaye Trine of North Carolina; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sheryl and Dennis Hall of Marshall, Michigan; Paternal grandmother, Valcie Gwin of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father William Richard Gwin, Jr. in 1967.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. by his brother-in-law, Rev. Dennis Hall. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
