William R. Felter
William R. Felter, age 76, of 218 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio died Saturday evening, May 23, 1998, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born October 16, 1921 in Norwalk, Ohio the son of the late William and Mary Frances (Herlihy) Felter. Mr. Felter attended Sandusky St. Mary Grade School and graduated from Shelby High School. Mr. Felter retired in 1985 from Miami Systems in Shelby. He was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326, and the Retirees Golf League at Woody Ridge Golf Course. Mr. Felter was a Navy Air Corps veteran of WWII serving on the USS Ranger. He loved tennis, golf and baseball having coached Shelby Little League and American Legion ball teams for many years.
Mr. Felter is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae (Augenstein) Felter, whom he married on January 31, 1943; 3 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, William Jr. and Liz Felter of Kent, Ohio; Robert and Jackie Felter of Shelby, Ohio; Michael and Sharon Felter of Sandusky, Ohio; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Nathan Dappen of Columbus, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Lisa-Anne Snow, Angela Felter, Lori Felter, John Felter, Kelly Felter, Tom Felter, Alex Dappen, Nick Felter, Kris Felter, Andrea Dappen and Susan Dappen. 1 great granddaughter, Alivia Parrott; 1 brother, Robert Felter of Hollywood, Florida; 2 sisters, Marjorie Abbott of Lakewood, Ohio and Jane Bailey of Washington D.C.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where wake services will be held Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will be in the Most Pure Heart Of Mary Cemetery with military honors.
