William R. Apger
William R. Apger, 60, of 4338 Ganges Five Points Road died unexpectedly Monday morning in the emergency room at Mansfield General Hospital.
He was born December 31, 1932, in Shelby to Russell and Emma Dick Apger.
Mr. Apger retired as sexton of Oakland Cemetery in April after 11 years of service. Prior to that he served 20 years in the Air Force and two years in the Navy. He was a member of Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post 326 and the Mansfield Moose Lodge. He graduated from Shelby Senior High School in 1951.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Allen Apger, whom he married July 3, 1959; two sons, Bruce Apger of Lexington and Steve Apger of Pennsylvania; two daughters and a son- in-law, Lisa and Robert Williams of Mansfield and Jennifer Apger at home; four grandchildren; a brother, Russell Apger of Mansfield; five sisters, Shirley Dewitt, Sue Lewis and Charlene Fagan, all of Shelby, Janice Donnenwirth of Mansfield and Sandy Burkhart of Crestline; and his stepmother, Evelyn Apger of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brother, Dean Apger and Harold Apger; and two sisters, Dorothy Bailey and Bonnie Jean Apger.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Carl Johnson, pastor of First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and left at the funeral home.
