William H. Sweeney

William H. Sweeney, 70, of 407 Lorwood Drive, Shelby, died Thursday evening December 4, 1997 at Med Central-Shelby Hospital.

He was born August 18, 1927 in Pittsfield, Mass. the son of William and Gertrude (Koch) Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney retired from the Shelby Mutual Insurance Company where he had been an underwriter. He was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F and AM. He had been the Past Master in Pittsfield before moving to Shelby in 1964. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing. He was and Army verteran of World War II.

Mr. Sweeney is survived by his wife, Betty (Johnston) Sweeney whom he married on May 12, 1956; 1 son, William H. Sweeney of Shelby; 1 daughter, Pamela A. Sweeney of Shelby; 1 brother, Donald Sweeney of Huntsville, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Matthews, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to Boy Scouts of America.
