William Clarence Stewart

William Clarence Stewart, 90, of 91 Parkwood Drive, Shelby, died Friday evening, June 25, 1999 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.

He was born June 24, 1909 in Clearfield, Kentucky, the son of Morgan Thomas and Mary (McClurg) Stewart. From 1944 until 1959 he was the owner of Stewart’s Grocery Store on Broadway in Shelby. He was a Kentucky Colonel and an avid gardner. He attended Taylortown Community Church.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Leoma (Johnson) Stewart, whom he married on December 19, 1931; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mary Stewart; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia C. and William H. Oliver all of Shelby; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren;4 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, James M. Stewart of Florida; a sister, Ethel Crager of Clearfield, KY; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Schlotterer; 3 brothers: Morgan, Fred, and Arthur Stewart; 4 sisters: Martha Barndollar, Stella Martt, Lottie May, and Rosie Stewart.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 6-8 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10 A.M. at the Taylortown Community Church in Shelby with Rev. O. Douglas Tackett officiating. Additional calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 11 A.M. until the time of services at 1 P.M. at the Northcutt and Son Funeral Home in Morehead, KY. Burial will be in Stewart Family Cemetery in Clearfield, KY. Memorial expressions may be made to the church.
