Walter I. Grimwood
Walter I. Grimwood, age 64, of 3914 Grimwood Drive, Shelby, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, December 27, 2001 at Med Central Shelby Hosptial after suffering an apparent heart attack at home.
He was born December 20, 1937 in Shelby, the son of the late Ray “Babe” and Mabel (Lehmkuhl) Grimwood. He was a 1955 graduate of Shelby High School and attended Kent State University. He served in the United States Navy. Walt was considered to be a “jack of all trades” as he was a welder, wood worker, and dowser. He was a carpenter having built houses and retired in 2000 from Pioneer Career and Technology Center as supervisor of buildings and grounds with 32 years of service.
He was an active member of First United Church of Christ, Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F and AM, Buckeye Iron Will Club, and was past president of Johnny Appleseed Wood Carvers Association. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jean (Laser) Grimwood, whom he wed on July 25, 1959; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Deb Grimwood of Shelby; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Debra and Randy Fidler of Shiloh, and Terri and Roger Niese of Shelby; 3 grandchildren: Owen, Kelsey and Adison Niese.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, December 30, 2001 from 2-5 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and from 9:30-10:30 AM on Monday at the funeral home. Funeral
service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at the funeral home with Rev. John J. Bradley and Rev. Marjorie Mair-Hansen officiating. Masonic services will be on Sunday at 5 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to First United Church of Christ or to Shelby Home and Public Health.
