Wallace A. Harnly
Wallace A. Harnly, age 89, formerly of Shelby, and most recently of Walterboro, South Carolina, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at the ColletonMedicalCenter in Walterboro after a period of failing health.
Mr. Harnly was born December 13, 1918 in Mansfield, Ohio the son of the late Omar W. and Grace E. (Richard) Harnly. He was a 1937 graduate of ShilohHigh School. He served in the US Navy in the south pacific during WWII on a supply ship, the USS Goldstar. He worked many years at the AMF Company in Shelby in the pinspotter division, retiring in 1984 from the Columbus location. He was a member of the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch in Shelby and the BethanyUnitedMethodistChurch in Summerville, South Carolina. He was a very active member of the Shelby church and especially enjoyed the time he spent on the Appalachian Mission Project. He was also a member of Shiloh American Legion Post #503 and a 60 year member of Shiloh Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included gardening and reading. In 1996, Wallace and his wife Doris moved to Summerville to be close to their daughter.
Wally is survived by his daughter and her husband, Wallis Ann and Henry Gillam of Summerville, South Carolina; a son and his wife, Craig and Patricia Harnly of East Moline, Illinois; 4 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, and his wife, Harold and Betty Daup of Mansfield; nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. (Daup) Harnly in 1997, a brother Richard Dick Harnly, a sister, Margaret Harnly, a half brother, Raymond Harnly, a half sister, Vivian Garn, and a Brother-in-law and his wife, Ellsworth and Kathleen Daup.
Friends may call on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home,
168 West Main Street, Shelby where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:45 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 10 AM at the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch, with Rev. Thomas Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Mt.HopeCemetery in Shiloh with military honors.
