Virginia “Marie” (Whisler) Gwirtz

Virginia “Marie” Gwirtz, age 89, formerly of 74 State Street, Shelby, died Monday evening, March 9, 1998 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.

She was born May 30, 1908 in Loudenville, Ohio the daughter of Frank and Susan (Tebo) Whisler. Mrs. Gwirtz is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Jeanette Gwirtz of Shelby; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Mike Greene of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Gwirtz on May 23, 1988; 2 grandson, Edward Gwirtz and Jerry Mosley; a great grandson, Joshua Pena; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and James Mosley; 5 brothers, Gus, Paul Ed , Ambrose, and Raymond Whisler and by 3 sisters, Lucille Reindl, Barbara Miller, and Leona Kurtzman.

Mrs. Gwirtz was a homemaker and had been employed at the Ohio Steel Tube Co. and Shelby Spring Hinge Co. She was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, and A.A.R.P. She was an avid bingo player.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where a wake service will be conducted Wednesday at 7:45 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church with Father John C. Missler, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
