Virgil E. Smith, Sr.
Virgil E. Smith, Sr., age 74, of 39 Clark Avenue, died Saturday afternoon in Mansfield General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born December 19, 1917 in Ashland County, Ohio, the son of Rollo O. and Mary (Emminger) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired employee of A.M.F., retiring in 1976 after 22 years of service. Prior to that he had been an employee of the Shelby Cycle Co.
He is survived by his wife, Annis (Potter) Smith, whom he married on July 15, 1951; a son and daughter-in-law: Virgil Jr. and Eileen Smith of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law: Loretta and John Barrett of Shelby; 2 grandchildren; 5 brothers: Gerald Smith of Willard, Glenn Smith and Orlo Smith both of Mansfield, and Forrest Smith and Merle Smith both of Shelby; 3 sisters: Evelyn Gundrum and Francis Blankenbeckley both of Shelby and Eulalia Myers of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Clifford and Herschel Smith.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.
Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Public Health League and left in care of the funeral home.
