Vern H. Hays

Vern H. Hays, age 93, of 10 East Madison Avenue, Shelby, died Monday, November 18, 1996, at his home after a short illness. He was born December 27, 1902 in Mendon, Ohio the son of Sabert A. and Emma (Coil) Hays.

Mr. Hays had been a barber for 43 years in Shelby. He was a member of thee First Church Of God on St. Rt. 39. He was a charter member of Shelby Moose Lodge #422 and was a former member of the Shelby Eagles, and Shelby Country Club . His hobbies included honey bee keeping, hunting and fishing, and he also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Workman) Hays, whom he married on April 26, 1987; 1 son and daughter-in-law, George and Sally Hays of Shelby; 2 step sons, Jerry Jennings and Larry Jennings both of Shelby; 2 step daughters, Juanita Kirkpatrick of Shelby and Audra McClain of Goshen, Ohio; 2 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; 1 sister, Ruth Luth of Celina, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth R. (Boosz) Hays in 1985.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim E. Schrock officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
