Vella M. Wenning
Vella M. Wenning, age 93, formerly of Auburn Avenue, Shelby, died Monday, January 28, 2008 after a short illness, at the home of her daughter, Joanne Milliron.
She was born September 18, 1914 in New Pittsburgh, Ohio the daughter of the late Elmore and Maude (Hemperly) Thrush. Vella was a 1932 graduate of Chester High School in Wayne County and started her working career in 1935 at Westinghouse in Mansfield. She married John Wenning on April 9, 1939. She moved to Shelby in 1955 and assisted her husband in the ownership of Wenning’s Bar. She attended the United Church of Christ in Shelby, was a life member of VFW #3494 Ladies Auxiliary in Mansfield, and a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Mansfield. Vella was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening.
Vella is survived by her 3 daughters and spouses, Beverly and James Swanger, Peggy Estep, Joanne and Paul Milliron all of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; Nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Ann Wenning in 1940, her husband John Wenning in 1984, a step son, Paul Wenning, 3 brothers, Elwood Thrush, Gilbert Thrush, and Robert Thrush, 2 sons-in-laws, William Walker and Douglas Estep.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street and also on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday conducted by Rev. John J. Bradley. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to Med Central Hospice.
