Thelma N. (Nelson) Kirkendall

Thelma N. Kirkendall, age 80, of 86 Mansfield Avenue, Shelby, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning in Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus. She was born April 20, 1914 in Richland County, the daughter of Albert and Mabel (Baker) Nelson.

Mrs. Kirkendall was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts.

She is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Joyce Kirkendall of Mansfield; 4 grandsons, Mark Kirkendall of Columbus, Matt Kirkendall of Mansfield, David Betts of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Joe Betts of Mansfield; 1 granddaughter, Karen Steele of Shelby; 8 great grandchildren; 1 son-in-law, Al Betts of Shelby; 1 sister, Ethel Imhoff of Willard and 1 brother, Irwin Nelson of Mansfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray Kirkendall in 1984 and by 1 daughter, Luella Betts in 1975.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Jeff Matthews, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.

Memorial expressions may be made to the American Heart Association and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street in Shelby.
