Sarah Ellen (McCartney) Chapman

Sarah Ellen Chapman, age 70, of 3951 Henry Road, Plymouth, died Wednesday, August 2, 1995, in Shelby at the home of her granddaughter and her husband, Linda and Mark Bellomy, after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 8, 1925 in Cherry Fork, West Virginia, the daughter of William and Sarah (Fornash) McCartney.

Mrs. Chapman was a press helper and stitcher at the Shelby Business Forms retiring in 1986 after 26 years of service. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelby and the Light Chapel Church in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

She is survived by 1 son, Roland Francis Chapman of Cardington; 1 son-in-law and his wife, Doug and Mary Tackett of Shelby; 8 grandchildren: Steve Tackett, Linda Bellomy, Marilyn Tackett, Jeff Tackett, John Chapman, Sandra Patton, Teresa Carlton and Norman Chapman; 11 great- grandchildren; 6 sisters: Thucie Smith, of Sophia, NC; Anna Cutright of French Creek, WV; Goldie Chapman of Frenchton, WV; Clara Gould of Big Bend Ridge, WV; Flora Westfall of Nutter Fort, WV; and Rosa Lea Tenney of Huntington, WV; 4 brothers: Oren McCartney of Rock Cave, WV; Trexel McCartney of Big Bend Ridge, WV; Perry McCartney, of Detroit, Michigan; Carl McCartney of Boone, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland B. Chapman in 1993; an infant son, Vonzel Lee Chapman in 1946; her daughter, Gatha Tackett in 1987; 2 brothers: Donald McCartney in 1926 and Roscoe McCartney in 1987; 1 sister, Texie Strader in 1994, and by 1 great-grandson.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby and also from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 South Kanawha St., Buckhannon, WV where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Lowther of the Light Chapel Church, officiating. Burial will be in Heavener Cemetery in Buckhannon.
