Ruth L. Spangler
Ruth L. Spangler, age 90, of Ontario, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at MedCentralShelbyHospital.
She was born November 12, 1918 in Shiloh the daughter of the late George William and Stella (Martin) Clark. She was a 1936 graduate of ShilohHigh School. Ruth was a former employee of Westinghouse in Mansfield and retired from Miami Systems in Shelby. After her retirement, she spent 20 years as a foster grandmother at Richland Newhope. In 2005 she was Foster Grandmother Of The Year for the State of Ohio. An avid sports fan, Ruth enjoyed playing golf and fishing. She was a life long Democrat and served as a poll worker in Ontario for many years. She was a member of the OntarioUnitedMethodistChurch.
Ruth is survived by her sons: Thomas and his wife, Susan Spangler of Shelby, Richard Spangler and his partner, Thomas Reiderman of Akron; a granddaughter: Jennifer Spangler of Columbus; many nieces and nephews; and her extended family at Richland Newhope and Raintree. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Roscoe W. Spangler in 1989; a daughter, Patricia Spangler; a granddaughter, Mary Michele Spangler; 4 brothers, William Clark, Ward Clark, Paul Clark, Richard Clark; 3 Sisters: Doris Messimer, Jean Smith and Marcella Coovert.
Friends may call on Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 1-3 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby . Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Dave Case on Monday at 11 AM at the OntarioUnitedMethodistChurch, 3540 Park Avenue West, Mansfield . Ruth was a wonderful,person, always giving of her time, to others. When you would see her, she always had a smile for you;ask how you were doing, as she did last Fri, nite, when we visited her at Shelby hospital. She was sleeping I was going to leave a note. she heard me, rattling paper, she looked up;with a smile, hi, gald u all came..
My husband; I had a nice warm conversation,with Ruth.She spoke of her family;how good her sons and family were to her. Also she mentioned her birthday last Nov. 12, her home, and her good neighbor next door to her, that was moving;etc.
We were deeply sadden,to learn of her passing, what a wonderful lady/ May God bless you all;and give you strenght,courage;grace with each passing day.
