Ruth E. (Dunn) Cordes

Ruth Esther Dunn Cordes, age 95, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Hamlet Manor in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
She was born July 2, 1912 in Columbus, Ohio. Her parents were Harry R. and Martha Luella (Turner) Dunn. She was a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, the consummate mother and homemaker and in later years she was a library assistant and worked at the Fireside Book Shop in Chagrin Falls where she had lived for the past 18 years. Ruth was a charter member of the Shelby Christian Missionary Alliance Church, a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and of the 97 Club in Shelby.
Ruth is survived by her children, Martha and Edward Towns of Shaker Heights, Ohio, J. William and Karen Cordes of Peoria, Illinois, Deitrich B. Jr. and Carolyn Sue Cordes of Concord, Ohio, Daniel Dunn Cordes of Lewiston, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death in 1968 by her husband, the Rev. Deitrich Barth Cordes, former rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Shelby; by a grandson, Matthew Cordes and by her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Alfred J. (Elizabeth Dunn) Shreve of Dearborn, Mich.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 11 AM at Oakland Cemetery, Shelby, with her son, the
Rev. John William Cordes, officiating.
