Russell “Sam” Adam

Russell “Sam” Adam, 83, of 11 W. Maxwell Drive, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at his home. He was born December 20, 1917 in Shelby, the son of the late Frank and Carrie (Schull) Adam. He was a 1936 graduate of Shelby High School and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Adam was the former owner of Adam Hardware Store in Shelby and also had worked at Wagner Hardware in Mansfield. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Shelby where he had been the custodian for many years. Sam is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Jerry” (Smith) Adam, whom he wed on May 14,1949; 2 sons, John Adam of Detroit, MI and Jeff Adam of Mansfield; 1 daughter, Jane McDowell of Mansfield; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 2 daughters-in-law: Benay Adam of Mansfield and Denise Brown of Ashland; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, his twin, Raymond Adam of Seattle, WA and Roger and Katie Adam of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and Bert Lorentz of Shelby; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. John and Jean Smith of Shelby, Judy and Boyd McClaskey of Atlanta, GA, Betty Adam of Alabama and Dode Adam of Mason, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Roscoe, Richard and Ford Adam, and by 2 sons, James Adam in 1993 and Joseph Adam in 1996. Calling hours will be on Sunday, April I5, from 5-8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby where funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Matthews and the Rev. Carl Beighley officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials may be made to the church or to Med Central Hospice.
