Russell L. Apger

Russell L. Apger, 84, of 37 Shelby Ave. died Monday evening in Shelby Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born October 21, 1904, in North Baltimore, Ohio, to Martin and Sarah Kempher Apger. Mr. Apger retired as a box sealer from Shelby U-FORMA in 1969. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where he sang in the choir for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Reynolds Apger; five daughters, Mrs. Carl (Shirley) Dewitt, Mrs. Jack (Sue) Lewis and Mrs. Jacque (Charlene) Fagan all of Shelby, Mrs. Joseph
(Sandy) Burkhart of Crestline and Mrs. Kenneth (Janice) Donnenwirth of Mansfield; two sons, William of Shelby and Russell of Pennsylvania; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hermie of Wooster and Mary of Falls Church, VA.
Mr. Apger was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Dick Apger, in 1952; two sons, Dean and Harold; two daughters, Dorothy Bailey and Bonnie Apger; and one granddaughter, Kelly Fagan.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Services will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 1:30 p.m. by his son-in- law, Joseph C. Burkhart, deacon of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crestline. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby.
