Roland B. Chapman

Roland B. Chapman, age 70, of 3951 Henry Road, lot 8, Plymouth, died at 8:10 a.m. Sunday at his home after an extended illness. He was born January 18, 1922 in Centralia, West Virginia the son of John R. and Melvina (Cogar) Chapman.

Mr. Chapman retired in 1973 from the B and O Railroad and the Shelby Business Forms. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelby and the Light Chapel Church in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife, Sarah E. (McCartney) Chapman whom he married on July 13, 1941 in French Creek, West Virginia; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Betty Chapman of Shelby; and a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Doug and Mary Tackett of Shelby; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; 4 brothers: Clyde and Ward Chapman both of Frenchton, West Virginia, Johnnie of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania,
and Gorman of Eugene, Oregon; 5 sisters: Ollie Huff and Ruth Fisher both of Glenville, West Virginia, Avie Hawkins of Buckhannon, West Virginia, Mary Mick of Avon Lake, Ohio and Della Ogden of Berryville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a son Vonzel Lee Chapman in 1946; a daughter, Gatha Tackett in 1987; a great-grandson, Matthew Shawn Patton in December of 1992; and by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Buckhannon, West Virginia where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. by pastor Robert Lowther of the Light Chapel Church officiating. Burial will be in Heavener Cemetery in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
