Roger Ellis Pugh

Roger Ellis Pugh, age 88, of 2852 London East Road, Shelby, died Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Crestwood Care Center.

Roger was born March 21, 1916 in Franklin Twp., Richland County, Ohio the son of the late Harry William and Margaret Ruth (Wolford) Pugh. He was a 1934 graduate of Shiloh High School. He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II serving in all theaters. He was a 3rd Class petty officer, armed guard, serving on merchant ships. Roger was a former employee of Railway Express Company in Shelby and The Tiro Locker, though his greatest joy was farming, having farmed for many years. He was an avid reader and loved being around people. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby, Richland County Farm Bureau and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Annabell (Coder) Pugh, whom he wed on August 27, 1950; a son and spouse, David Lee and Sherri Pugh of Cartersville, GA; a daughter and spouse, Mary Ellen and Jack Burgess of Columbus; 2 grandsons, Christopher Bryan Pugh of Crestline and Ryan Matthew Pugh serving in the US Air Force in Titusville, FL; Step grandchildren, Scott and Debbie Rollins, Staci and Chuck Wade; 3 step great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Frances Pugh of Shelby and Evangeline Coleman of Grand Prairie, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Wagner and an infant brother.

Friends may call on Monday, May 10, 2004, from 5-8 PM, at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and also on Tuesday, from Noon-1 PM. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 1 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Steven C. Bond officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Military honors will be conducted by the Joint Veterans Council Burial Detail. Memorial expressions may be made to First Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
