Roger Allan Smith
Roger A. Smith, age 69, of 61 Park Avenue, Shelby, died Sunday, September, 15, 2002 at Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard after an extended illness.
He was born June 6, 1933 in Warwick, Ohio, the son of the late William A. and Cleo G. (Leedy) Smith. Roger was a 1952 graduate of Willard High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. As a young man, he worked for the B and O Railroad in Willard. He retired from
General Motors in Ontario after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326 and Golden Rule Lodge #562 F and AM in Willard. Roger was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling, woodworking, golf, bowling, and playing cards.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to: His wife, Rosemary E. (Moomaw) Smith, whom he wed on April 24, 1954; his sons and ispouses: Randall and Leigh Ann Smith of Moorpark, CA, Ronald Smith and Susan Colley-Smith of Dublin, Ryan and Debbie Smith of Dublin; 8 grandchildren: Kristin Smith, Ashley Smith, Randall (Scott) Smith II, Melanie Smith, Kathryn Smith, Samantha Smith, Sarah Smith, Sydney Smith; 2 brothers: William L. Smith of Brandon, FL and Don E. Smith of .Concord, CA.
He was preceded in death by a brother Eugene C. Smith.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where Masonic services will be held at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Memorial expressions may be made to Dept. of Neurology at Ohio State University.
