Robert L. Guthrie, Sr.
Robert L. Guthrie, Sr., age 79, of 211 West Main St. Shelby, died Thursday afternoon in the Crestwood Care Center after a short illness. He was born April 4, 1908 in Shiloh, the only child of Fred and Viva (Ferrell) Guthrie.
Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife Helen K. (Winemiller) Guthrie, whom he married on May 31, 1926; 1 son, Robert L. Guthrie, Jr., of Mansfield; 3 daughters: Mrs. Gordon (Donna Jean) Lewis of St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. Bert (Dianne) Davis of Shelby; and Mrs. Philip (Daneen) Haggard of Findlay, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchidren.
Mr. Guthrie was a former supervisor of the finishing department at the former Shelby Cycle Co. and A.M.F. in Shelby. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Shiloh Masonic Lodge #544 F & AM, and Royal Arch Masons Shelby Chapter #178, Richland County Scottish Rite Association, 32nd Degree Valley of Scioto Columbus Consistory.
He had also been the Superintendent of the Shelby Park System for 13 years.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Shelby, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Carl G. Beighley, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery in Shiloh. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at the Turner Funeral Harne. Masonic Services will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home.
