Robert J. “Bob” Schreck
Robert J. Schreck, age 54, of 52 Renfrew Drive, Shelby, died unexpectedley Sunday afternoon in Shelby Memorial Hospital after sufferipg an apparent heart attack while playing raquetball at the “Y”.
He was born November 21, 1932 in Plymouth, Ohio, the son of Robert G. and Arline Z. (Straub) Schreck.
Mr. Schreck is survived by his wife: Marcine (Kaple) Schreck, whom he married on October 25, 1952; 2 daughters: Mrs. Lanny (Robin) Showers of Marion, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Laurie) Kirk of Shelby; 2 sons: Robert M. and Todd A. both attending Ohio University in Athens, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; his mother: Arline Schreck of Bucyrus; 1 sister: Mrs. Gary (Martha Jane) Alfrey of Denver, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his father, and 1 brother Larry.
Mr. Schreck was born and attended school in Plymouth, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He attended Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University and received his BS degree from Ashland College. He was currently enrolled in the Master’s Program at Ashland College.
Bob was currently the Executive Vice President of the Shelby Insurance Company with which he has been associated since 1957. He has held several positions in the accounting and finance areas. He was elected to the Board of Directors in January 1975. He also served as an officer/director of the following Shelby subsidiaries: director and president of IPBS, Inc.; director and treasurer of Shelby Financial Corporation; director and treasurer of Affirmative Insurance Company; and was a director of Insura Property and Casualty Insurance Company; The Shelby Life Insurance Company, Shelby Printing, Inc., First Travel Service, Inc. and Travel Associates, Inc.
Bob was active in various organizations dealing with accounting, insurance and taxes, and was currently on the Accounting Committee of Devco, Past President of the Ohio Chapter of IASA, a member of the Planning Committee for IASA Int’l, and a member of the NAMIC Tax Committee. He was a public accountant in the state of Ohio.
Mr. Schreck was Director of the First National Bank of Shelby; Director and past president of the Shelby “Y” Community Center; member of Kiwanis; past president of the Shelby Country Club; and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1968; Member of the American Legion Post in Shelby. He served on the Advisory Council of the Johnny Appleseed Area Boy Scouts of America. He had been a football and basketball official. He Was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby where he served on the financial committee.
Prior to moving to Shelby he served as president of Village Council and was a member of the Public Utilities Committee of New Washington, Ohio.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby with his pastor the Rev. Bernard Kokocinski officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday anytime after 12:00 Noon where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home. A Christian
wake service will be conducted Wednesday evening at 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby “Y” Community Center or to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church Memorial Fund and left at the funeral home.
