Robert C. Shaffer, Sr.

Robert C. Shaffer, Sr., 64, of 37 Third St., died unexpectedly Monday in Morrow County Hospital in Mt. Gilead after suffering an apparent heart attack while playing golf.

Born May 4, 1928 in Bellville, he was son of Virgil and Donna (Hershey) Shaffer. He retired in 1989 from Home and Kitchen Supply, and prior to that he had been employed at the Wickes store in Shelby.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby and Woody Ridge Golf Course. He was a 1946 graduate of Lexington High School, where he played varsity baseball and basketball.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Yarman) Shaffer, whom he married Oct. 8, 1966; four daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra and Michael Zerby of Laughlin, NV, Susan and Phil Jennings of Flowermound, Texas, Linda and Roger Bloomfield of Shiloh, and Pam and Michael Weiler of Ontario; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Robert Miley of Denver, CO, Robert and Linda Shaffer, Jr. of Mansfield, and David and Laura Shaffer of Brighton, MI; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother: Wilbert Shaffer of Lexington; and two sisters: Marti Kinton and Correne Brown, both of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard and Junior Shaffer.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, at the Turner Funeral Home and one-half hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral services, Thursday, at the First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial expressions may be made to the First Lutheran Church and left in care of the funeral home.
