Robert Burns Thompson

Robert Burns Thompson, age 81, of 16 West Jefferson Avenue in Shelby, died Friday evening in Shelby Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born January 16, 1913 in Shelby, the son of J. Samuel and Frances Eva Marie (Burns) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson retired in 1978 from the Autocall. Prior to that, he had worked at the Shelby Metal Products, Co., the Sales Book, and A.M.F.

A 1930 graduate of Shelby High School, He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Friends of Marvin Memorial Library. He was a 50 year member of the Royal Arch Masons, chapter #178, where he was a past grand master. He was on the A.A.R.P. board and attended the Widowers Breakfast Club.

He married Grace (Rose) Thompson on June 28, 1935 at the First United Methodist Church in Shelby, and she preceded him in death in 1991.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Thelma Hall and Betty Guenther ; 1 brother, John “Jack” Thompson.

Mr. Thompson is survived by 1 daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Charles Seastrom of New Castle, Delaware; 1 son , Joe Thompson of Shelby; 4 grandchildren, Robert Seastrom of Reston, Va., Sara Seastrom of Newark, Delaware, Mary Thompson of Boston, Mass., and Elizabeth Thompson of Mansfield; 2 brothers, James Thompson and William Thompson both of Shelby; 1 sister, Marge Wrightsman of Shelby; a special friend, Jane Fairchild of Shelby.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. with his pastor, Rev. Jeff Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home Monday evening.

Memorial expressions may be made to the Friends of Marvin Memorial Library or to the Discovery School Library, and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street; Shelby.
