Ray L. “Jiggs” Dake

Ray L. “Jiggs” Dake, age 67, of 131 West Main Street, Shelby, died early Wednesday morning in Shelby Memorial Hospital. He was born December 10, 1927 in Sycamore, Ohio the son of David and Mary Dorothy (Snarr) Dake.

Mr. Dake retired from Shelby City Schools in 1990 as the head of maintenance after 26 years of service. Prior to that, he had sold cars for Fred Laubie, Don Murray and Al Rosso.

He attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelby and was a social member of both the Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326 and AMVETS Post #26 in Mansfield. He enjoyed working with cars.

He is survived by his wife, Esther (Price) Dake, whom he married on April 15, 1951; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Cecelia Dake of Lima; Nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Sarah Jane Corbin and 1 brother, Arthur Dake.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. J. Malcolm Brook, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
