Paul Robert Sergent

Paul Robert Sergent, age 75, of 44 Clark Avenue, Shelby, died Tuesday morning, January 2, 2001 at his home after an extended illness with pancreatic cancer.

He was born August 19, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a Navy veteran of WWII serving on the USS Craven. Mr. Sergent was a long-time employee of Westinghouse in Mansfield and was a member of the Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326, Shelby Eagles, and Shelby Owls. His
hobbies included, hooking rugs, cooking, gardening, fishing, and taking care of his family.

He is survived by his wife, Merline (Rogers) Sergent, whom he married on September 4, 1948; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Barrie McConnell of Mansfield, Paula K. and Les Albright of Shelby, and Colleen Sergent and Rich Jones of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren: Erin Litzenberg, Dana Litzenberg, Alex McConnell, Chris McConnell, Robert Albright, Kelly Albright, Luke Jones, Tammy Jones, and Lisa Jones; 2 great-granddaughters: Melanie and Gabrielle; his aunt and uncle, Vi and Henry Lepp of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delton Baird Sergent; his mother and step-father: Mary (Lepp) and Charles Reed; and a brother, Earl Sergent.

Mr. Sergent had requested that his body be donated to the Ohio State University Department of Anatomy and Medical Education. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 6, 2001 from 10 AM-11:30AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a
memorial service will be held at 11 :30AM with Rev. Craig Jones, pastor of the First Christian
Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Memorial expressions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 23 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.
