Opal G. (Adams) Laws Roberts

Opal G. Laws Roberts, age 86, formerly of 5 Grove Avenue Extention in Shelby, died Monday evening in the Emerald Health Care Center in Taylorsville, North Carolina after an extended illness.

She was born September 16, 1907 in Shelby, the daughter of John and Bertha (Carmean) Adams.
Mrs. Roberts retired in 1972 from the Autocall Corp. in Shelby. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby and was an avid card player.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law: Harry E. “Gene” and Margaret Laws of Shelby; 1 daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and William Miller of Taylorsville, NC; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandaughter; 1 sister: Freda Adams of Norwalk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Hobart “Hoopty” Roberts in 1964; 1 brother: Lloyd Adams; and 1 sister: Dorothy Adams Schick.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Lyle Hinkle, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Memorial expressions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby.
