Nicholas William Eichinger, Jr.

Nicholas William Eichinger, Jr., age 74, of 2686 Holtz Road, Shelby, died Tuesday February 11, 1997 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after an extended illness. He was born July 21, 1922 in Mansfield, the son of Nicholas William and Helen (Franta) Eichinger, Sr.

Mr. Eichinger was a truck driver having worked for Rothlisberger Transfer and retiring from General Highway Express. He was a member of the Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post 326 and the Teamsters Union.

He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the 274th armored tank division in the European Theater and was awarded a bronze star for his service in Calaie, France.

Mr. Eichinger is survived by his wife, Eileen (Light) Eichinger, whom he married on November 17, 1941; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Jan Eichinger of Shelby; 2 grandchildren, Rich Eichinger of Shelby and Connie Castle of Shelby; 4 great grandchildren, Bobby, Amber, and Autumn Castle, and Anna Eichinger; 1 brother, Robert Eichinger of Mansfield; 1 sister, Evelyn Hockenberry of Mansfield.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m with Rev. James Humphrey, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors.
