Mona Jean (DeVeny) Bertke

Mona Jean Bertke, age 82, of Vernon Road, Shelby died unexpectedly late Sunday evening, September 25, 2005 at her home.

She was born August 1, 1923 in Willard the daughter of the late Harry Lloyd and Julia Ann (Shrader) DeVeny. Mona attended Willard High School and was a former employee of The Peoples Store in Shelby. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Altar Rosary Society, and Shelby Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and golfer.

Mona is survived by her children: Shirley and Chuck VonderEmbse of Shepherd, Michigan; Linda and Frank Hicks of Shelby; Janet and Gregg Theaker of Southlake, Texas; Steve and Brenda Bertke of Bellbrook, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome F. Jim Bertke in 1995 and by 4 brothers, Raymond, James, Harry, and Silas Jack DeVeny.

Friends may call on Friday, September 30, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. The rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the church or to St. Mary’s School.
