Melvin L. “Bud” Westcott, Sr.

Melvin L. “Bud” Westcott, Sr., age 78, of Palmetto, Florida, and formerly of Weidner Road in Shelby, died early Tuesday morning, October 8, 1996, in Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. He was born May 13, 1918 in Granton, Pennsylvania the son of Everett W. and Naomia P. (Lochard) Westcott.

Mr. Westcott had been an employee of Copperweld – Shelby Division and the Pennsylvania Railroad prior to retiring in 1986 from Tech Form Industries in Shelby. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby and Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326.

He is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Melvin L. and Sally Westcott, Jr. of Ankara, Turkey; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Robert Schiemann of Milford, Michigan; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy Hartman of Crestline. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty J. (Swisher) Westcott in 1988, and by a sister, Elva Traxler and a brother, William Westcott.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Matthews, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby, where military graveside services will be held.
