Maxine A. (Wiegman) Greathouse Channing

Maxine A. Channing, 76, of 56 Sunset Dr. Shelby, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital after a short illness.
She was born Oct. 2, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of L.M. “Max” and Ruth (Bevier) Wiegman. She was a 1943 graduate of Willard High School and a graduate of Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in secretarial science. Maxine was an executive secretary for Firestone Rubber in Akron for many years. She also worked at the Richland County Agricultural Extension Office. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby where she was an office volunteer. She was an avid seamstress. She loved gardening and cooking, and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard.
Surviving are a sister; Marjorie Artale, of Shelby; a son and daughter-in- law, James Ray and Karen Channing of Plymouth; daughters and sons-in- law: Jayne and Denny Vanderpool of Republic, Beth Ann and Ed Kurtzman and Lois Hamilton, both of Shelby; a son-in-law and his spouse; Alva and Carolyn Cummings of Willard; eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Greathouse in 1966, her second husband Walter Channing in 1999, and a daughter, Audrey Martha Cummings in 1985.
Calling hours will not be observed. Funeral services will be on Monday, April 1, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Home 168 W. Main St. Shelby, with the Rev. Steven C. Bond officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield Township, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church or Shelby Help Line Ministries.
