Maurice S. Cooke

Maurice S. Cooke, age 72, of Shoup Road, Shelby was dead on arrival Saturday evening at Shelby Memorial Hospital. He was born February 16, 1916 in Shelby the son of Walter and Fanny Cooke.

Mr. Cooke is survived by his wife, Mary (Sutter) Cooke, whom he married on October 2, 1944; 2 sons: Thomas and Ronald, both of Shelby; 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Rex and Edward Cooke both of Shelby; 3 sisters: Mrs. Raymond (Hazel) Brooks of Plymouth, Mrs. Michael (Dorothy) Mackey and Mrs. Wanda McKinney both of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his parents,
and by 1 brother, Walter.

Mr. Cooke was a farmer and the owner of a private campground. He was an Army veteran of WWII and was a member of the Shelby American Legion.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. T. Joe Campbell, Pastor of The Shelby Alliance Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours observed. The Family requests that memorial expressions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and left at the Turner Funeral Home which is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
