Mary (Castor) Purdy
Former Shelby resident Mary Castor Purdy, 79, who moved to Fort Myers, FL in 1963, died Thursday evening at Shell Point Nursing Pavilion in Fort Myers after a short illness.
Mrs. Purdy was born Sept. 23, 1905 in Shelby to Raymond and Grace (Stambaugh) Castor.
She was a member of Sanibel Community Church, Sanibel Island, FL. She once worked for the Daily Globe in Shelby and the Statler Realty Co. in Mansfield.
She was an honorary and charter member of the Alpha Mu Chapter of Alpha Pi Sigma sorority and a graduate of Wittenberg University and The Ohio State University.
Her husband Ross M. Purdy died in 1965, and she also was preceded in death by an infant brother and her parents.
Survivors include sister-in-law Mary K. Purdy of Shelby, and brothers-in-law John W. Purdy of Shelby and Burl O. Purdy of Moorpark, CA.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Monday at Turner Funeral Home, the Rev. Carl Beighley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Calling hours are 11 a.m. until the service Monday.
