Marguerite H. (Champion) Holmes

Marguerite H. Holmes, age 92, of Shelby, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Med Central Shelby Hospital.

She was born August 23, 1917 in Shelby the daughter of the late Perry and Wilda (Picking) Champion. She was a 1935 graduate of Shelby High School. On February 6, 1937 she married Carl L. Holmes. They were married 62 years at the time of Carl’s death in 1999. Marguerite had been an employee of the Shelby Cycle and retired from AMF in Shelby.

She is survived by a son and his wife: Monte and Jerri Holmes of Shelby; a granddaughter: Tami Holmes of Shelby; honorary granddaughter: Wendy Williams of Shelby; step grandson: Eric Keaton of Shelby; nephews: Zane (Pat) Zimmerman of Green Valley, AZ and Eugene Shade of Mansfield; her faithful cat: Tommy.

In addition to her husband Carl, Marguerite was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Lucille Cashman and Mildred Shade and a brother: Ted Champion.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM by Rev. David Sipes. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials may be made to the Richland County Humane Society. On-line condolences:
