Loren Fried Hipsher

Loren Fried Hipsher, age 88, of Crestline, died peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at his home after an extended illness. Loren was born, raised, and died on the family farm.

He was born, March 23, 1920 in Vernon Township, Crawford County, Ohio the son of the late Willis Dale and Edna (Fried) Hipsher. Loren graduated in 1938 from Tiro High School. He was a farmer for over 60 years and retired from the Ohio Steel Tube Company in Shelby. He was a member of Tiro United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and usher for many years. He was a former school board member at Tiro School and was a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau. As a young man, he played baseball for the Tiro Merchants and the Leesville Reds. He umpired baseball for high school and semi pro baseball games for many years. He was an avid sports fan and was and enthusiastic Cleveland Indians fan.

Loren is survived by his wife, Martha I. (Sonnanstine) Hipsher, whom he wed on September 30, 1940; his 8 children, Peggy and Richard Armstrong of Worthington, Donna and Chuck Dean of Crestline, Edna and William Albright of Plymouth, Loren E. and Rose Hipsher of Crestline, Mary and James Koeper of Charleston, SC, Debra and Ronald Lutz of Tiffin, Annette and Bradley Richards of New Washington, Timothy and Robin Hipsher of Crestline; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Glenna Hipsher of Newark; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Donald Hipsher,
W. Carl Hipsher, and a sister-in-law, Valeria Hipsher.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM with Pastor Peter Rohan officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the Tiro United Methodist Church. The family would appreciate on-line condolences at

    I was very sorry to hear of your loss. Hippie was a great person.I worked for hippie at the tubee in the sixties-he was a great boss and very fair the employees would do anything for him. I know he will greatly missed.
