Leroy Rocky Stone
Leroy Rocky Wirick Stone, age 78, of Shelby, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby surrounded by his family.
Rocky was born January 2, 1930 in Morrow County, Ohio and was a resident of Shelby most of his life. He was the adopted son of the late Glenn and Marie (Fry) Stone. Rocky was a 1948 graduate of Shelby High School where he played football. He was in the Navy Reserves. Rocky retired from AMF in Shelby and prior to that he was employed by Shelby Cycle Co and Will’s Texaco. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326, and had served on the Sharon Township Zoning Board. Rocky was an avid football fan and loved to watch college football.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma (Lay) Stone, whom he wed on July 15, 1950; 2 daughters, Bonita and Robert Rickett of Mansfield, Shari Stone of Crestline; 2 sons, Rick and Valerie Stone of Shelby and Ron Stone of Willard; 4 grandchildren, Krystal Stone of New York City, Steve Stone of Shelby, Caleb Stone of Columbus, Dustin and Amber Stone of Shelby; 1 great grandson, Blake Stone; his concerned bedside companion and beloved cat, Samantha; 3 sisters, Mabel Kochheiser of Mesa, Arizona, June Klein of Mt. Gilead, Betty Miller of Mansfield; a brother, Dale Wirick of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Loleda Ruhl and a brother, Carl Wirick.
