Lemuel Oliver Lybarger

Lemuel Oliver Lybarger, age 84, of 2376 Rock Road, Shelby, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Med Central Shelby Hospital.

He was born March 6, 1918 in Cass Township, Richland County, Ohio the son of the late Oliver D. and Maude E. (Laser) Lybarger. Lemuel was an Army veteran of WWII. Prior to entering the service, he was employed at the Ohio Steel Tube Company. After the war, he worked sorting mail on railroad lines between Chicago and Pittsburgh. He was a substitute mail carrier in Shelby for many years. Throughout his lifetime he also farmed, had a trucking business, and was a Jackson Township trustee for 30 years. Mr. Lybarger was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the Union Grange, Shelby Moose Lodge, and the Richland County Farm Bureau, where he held various offices. He enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Lybarger is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Shriver) Lybarger, whom he wed on February 15, 1974; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Peggy Lybarger of Shelby, Dale and Linda Lybarger of Marysville, OH, and Samuel and Kari Lybarger of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Tom Adams of Marblehead, OH; 10 grandchildren; 8 greatgrandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Marjorie Lybarger of Shelby; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and George Williams of Shelby and Clara Bosko of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice (Went) Lybarger in 1972, and 2 sisters, Ada Radke and Marguerite Unkel.

Calling hours will be on Friday, January 3, 2003 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church, 21 Washington Street, Shelby, with Rev. Steve Schag officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the church.
