Lawrence Frederick Lord

Lawrence Frederick Lord, age 81, formerly of 45 Park Avenue, Shelby, died Saturday, December 7, 2002 at the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. He moved to Virginia in 1998 to live with his son Tim and family.

Mr. Lord was born November 29, 1921 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Storms) Lord. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was shot down in Holland where a Dutch family took him in to hide him from the Germans. He was caught in Amsterdam trying to escape back to the United States. He was held as a P.O.W. for eighteen months in Germany. After the war he continued his service to his country and retired from the Air Force after serving 26 years. After his retirement from the military, he was employed at the Shelby Autocall Co. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, was a 51 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Ofallon, IL and a former member of the Shelby Shrine Club and the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Nancy Lord of Sunbury, OH and Tim and Cindy Lord of Poquoson, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Tam E. and Ken Hogan of Oklahoma City, OK; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Lord of Ft. Wayne, IN.

On January 1, 1948 he married Virginia Mae (Higgins) Lord and she preceded him in death on August 15, 1997. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Sam Lord.

Private graveside services will be held on Wednesday at the Sandusky Township Cemetery, Crawford County, OH by the Rev. James Smith. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Lung Association.
