Lalai Amanda (Stroup) Ackley

Lalai Amanda Ackley, 96, of Shelby, died Saturday evening at Good Shepherd Home in Ashland where she had resided for the past four days.

She had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill for the past three weeks.

Born July 25, 1889, in Cass Township, she was the daughter of Samuel and Emma (Stine) Stroup.

She married Harry Ackley on December 26, 1912. She was a homemaker and member of the First Lutheran Church, Busy Bee Club, Daughters of America, and an active member of the Union Grange for more than 50 years.

Survivors include one son, James Harry Ackley of Shelby; three grandchildren, James Jr., of Lisbon; George of Uniontown; and Karen Robertson of Severn, MD; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and two brothers: Clarence and Fred Stroup.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Carl L. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church.
