L. Jeannette (Kuhn) Oates

L. Jeannette Oates, age 88, formerly of Shelby Avenue, Shelby, died unexpectedly Thursday, October 19, 2006 at her home in Hilliard, Ohio.

Jeannette was born May 8, 1918 in Shelby the daughter of the late Orvie W. and Ethel (Hawk) Kuhn. She was a 1936 graduate of Shelby High School and was the head bookkeeper at the Citizens Bank for many years, retiring in 1979. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Business and Professional Women’s Club and was a 60 year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She took pleasure in playing bingo and working puzzle books. She especially enjoyed spending time visiting with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Pam Davis of Dublin, Ohio; 2 granddaughters, Becky Davis of Hilliard, Ohio and Lindsay Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina; a sister, Marjorie Pugh of Lima, Ohio; Numerous nieces and nephews. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Marlin J. Davis in 1969, her second husband, John S. Oates in 1992, two sisters, Corinne Kuhn and Maryann Wallace, and two brothers, Dwight Kuhn and Leon Kuhn.

Friends may call on Sunday, October 22, 2006 from 2-4 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and also from 9:30-10:15 AM on Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway, Shelby. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 AM with Rev. Steven C. Bond and Rev. Warren Reichert officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the church.
