Kenneth Merle Koontz

Kenneth Merle Koontz, age 75, of Heritage Square N-17, Mission, Texas, died in the emergency room at Medical Park Hospital in Hope, Arkansas on Thursday. Mr. Koontz was returning home after visiting relatives in Shelby. He was born August 9, 1914 in Shelby, the son of Bert and Edith Leona (Sells) Koontz.

Mr. Koontz retired from CPC in Ontario in 1977 and was formerly employed at the Shelby Fire Department in the 1940s. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of Nikki F. Rowe V.F.W. Post 2369 in McAllen, Texas and a life member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Federal Chapter #80. He was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge 350 F and AM, Richland County Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, National Council of Senior Citizens, and AARP.

Mr.. Koontz is survived by his wife Lois (Roorback) Koontz whom he married on August 6, 1960; 1 son Richard D. Koontz of Shelby; 2 stepsons Larry Snyder of Shelby, and George Snyder of Willard; 5 step grandchildren; his stepmother, Dosia Koontz of Urbana; 2 brothers: Carl and Paul Koontz both of Florida.

He was preceded in death by 1 sister.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home with David Braxton, Minister of Shelby Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Mansfield Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 and and 7-9 at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby Masonic Lodge and left in care of the funeral home.
