Joseph J. “Smokey” Lasch
Joseph J. “Smokey” Lasch, age 69, of 204 Springmill Road in Plymouth died unexpectedly early Saturday morning at Willard Mercy Hospital after suffering an apperent heart attack at his home.
He was born February 13, 1924 in Plymouth, the son of Joseph and Clara (Williams) Lasch. Mr. Lasch has been the owner and operator of Woody Ridge Golf Course between Shelby and Plymouth since 1981. Prior to that he was a Marathon Petroleum Distributor in the Richland and Huron County area for 32 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Plymouth High School and served as Plymouth Township clerk for many years. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a member of Shelby American Legion O’Brien Post #326, Shelby Owls Club, The Shelby Club, and the First Lutheran Church in Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (May) Lasch, whom he married on May 2, 1945; 1 daughter and son-in-law: Bonnie and Robert Hall of Plymouth; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law: John and Martha Lasch of Plymouth and Joseph “Joel” Lasch of Willard; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 1 sister and brother-in-law: Cleta and Max Smith of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by 1 brother, Clyde Lasch.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby and also 1 hour prior to the funeral service which will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Plymouth, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Stephen Gauger. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Shelby American Legion. Memorial expressions may be made to the First Lutheran Church and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home.
