Joseph G. Swinning
Joseph G. Swinning, age 61, of 39 Oak Street in Shelby, died Sunday evening in Mansfield General Hospital after a long illness. He was born March 14, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Wesley E. Sr. and Bertha M. (Jackson) Swinning.
Mr. Swinning grew up and spent his early married life in Union County.
Mr. Swinning retired in 1990 from G.M. North American Operations Mansfield-Ontario. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #549 and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Bryant) Swinning whom he married on March 24, 1984; 2 daughters, Karen Sue Swinning of Mansfield and Teresa Jo Kilgore of Mansfield; 2 sons, Michael Gale Swinning of Grady, Alabama and David Alan Swinning of Marion, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 4 step daughters, Debbie Vollmer of Mansfield, Robin Hoffman of Shiloh, Patty Smith of Mansfield, and Josette Benedict of Mansfield; 2 step sons, Warren Lambert, Jr. of Shelby and Wayne Lambert of Mansfield; 14 step grandchildren; 1 brother, Larry Swinning of Shelby; 1 sister, Diane Rodney of Austintown, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wesley E. Swinning, Jr. and James T. Swinning.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Anthony Henderson, officiating. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens.
