John Riley Cole
John Riley Cole, age 69, of Richland Ave. Shelby, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Hospice House in Ashland, Ohio. He was born December 6, 1928 in Betsy Layne Kentucky, the son of the late Abram and Malta (Bays) Cole. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany from 1956 to 1958. He was a former employee of Quinex in Shelby and the Shelby Marathon Station. He retired as a security guard from Plantation Patterns in Wadley Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Reed) Cole whom he married on Feb. 14, 1998, three sons and a daughter in law: John Cole of Shelby, Jody and Linda Cole of Mansfield, and Brian Hawkins of Arizona; four daughters and sons in law: Thelma and Mark Ball of Galion, Ruby and Bill Long of Plymouth, Cathy and Allen Feltner of Tiro, and Nadene (Scott Phelps) Johnson of Shelby. Also surviving are two brothers and seven sisters: James Cole of London KY, Jimmy Lee Cole and Imogene Hawkins, both of Shelby, Leora Owens, Lucille Boyd, Judith Shepherd, Phyllis Jean Adkins, and Helen Mullins all of Martin KY and Sylvia Carter of Ashland KY., 6 stepchildren, 17 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 15 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Monroe Cole, and Woodrow Cole and sisters Betty Jean Cole and Ora Lee Cole.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday in Martin Kentucky, with burial in Martin Cemetery. The Turner Home assisted the family with local arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
