John H. McKenzie

John H. McKenzie, age 62, of 3234 Shelby-Ganges Road, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday. He was born June 9, 1928 in Shelby, the son of Holley and Estell (Jones) McKenzie.

Mr. McKenzie retired in 1989 from the Autocall as an electrical tester after 36 years of service. He also was a farmer. Mr. McKenzie was a dedicated Christian and worshiped at the First Church Of God in Shelby where he was the head usher.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Workman) McKenzie whom he married on July 25, 1953; a son and daughter-in-law: Philip and Patricia McKenzie of Shelby; 2 grandsons; 6 brothers: Doug McKenzie of Culman, Alabama; Rodney McKenzie, Earl McKenzie and Charles McKenzie all of Anderson, Indiana; Guy McKenzie of Midland, Kentucky; and Paul McKenzie of Morehead, Kentucky; 1 sister, Mrs. Roy (Ann) Conn of Clearfield, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Joan McKenzie in 1974; and a sister Avis Johnson.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at the First Church of God on State Route 39 by his pastor Tim E. Schrock. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Memorial expressions may be made to the First Church Of God and left in care of the funeral home.
