John C. Depler
John C. Depler, age 66, of Shelby died unexpectedly Saturday, February 6, 2010 at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He was born July 13, 1943 in Mansfield the son of the late G. William and Mary (Anderson) Depler. John was a 1961 graduate of Shelby High School, graduated in 1965 from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in business and received his teaching certification from Ashland College. He retired from the Mansfield City School System after 27 years of teaching business at Mansfield Senior High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby and the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F and AM. He loved animals especially his dachshunds – Fritz, Gus and Buddy. John’s most enjoyable times were spent with a good visit with his family and friends. In the last couple years, John took up knitting winter hats. He knitted hundreds of hats and donated them to various organizations.
John is survived by his wife: Cheryl (Thompson) Depler, whom he wed on July 13, 1973; his brother: Thomas and Nancy Depler of Shelby; his mother-in-law: Marie Thompson of Mansfield; Cheryl’s siblings: Vaughn and Becky Thompson of Tucson, AZ, Charles and Judy Thompson of Lucas, Lee Thompson of Mansfield, Clara and Steve Freer of Mansfield; Numerous nieces and nephews; Cousins: Jim and Sandy Bricker and Sharon Bricker all of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Vernon Thompson and a cousin, Ted Bricker.
Friends may call on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from
11 AM – Noon at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where Funeral services will be held at Noon by Rev. Thomas Snyder. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
