John A. Gwirtz

John A. Gwirtz, age 87, of 74 State Street, Shelby, died Monday afternoon at his home after an extended illness. He was born November 29, 1900 in the Shelby Settlement the son of Anthony and Matilda (Brown) Gwirtz.

Mr. Gwirtz was a farmer and retired from the Ohio Steel Tube Co. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Mr. Gwirtz is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie (Whisler) Gwirtz; 1 son, John Jr. of Shelby; 2 daughters, Mrs. James (Joan) Mosley of Shelby, and Mrs. Mike (Shirley) Greene of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Henry Gwirtz and Howard Gwirtz both of Shelby; 1 sister, Mrs. Barbara Durnwald of New Washington.

He was preceded in death by 1 grandson; 4 brothers; 2 sisters.

Mass of the Resurection will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard Kokocinski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday at the Turner Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
